About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Lead Data Scientist to spearhead the development of advanced AI solutions that drive innovation and deliver measurable impact across the business. This pivotal role involves leading complex AI initiatives, architecting scalable machine learning systems, and mentoring a team of engineers and data scientists. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong leadership capabilities to translate business needs into cutting-edge AI and Generative AI-driven solutions. You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to identify data opportunities, develop sophisticated models, and implement scalable AI solutions that enhance our products and services. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping Mastercard’s AI-driven future, fostering a culture of continuous innovation and technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience delivering data science and machine learning solutions from concept to production, including deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
• Proficiency in Python, with experience in libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, and scikit-learn.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch, and familiarity with transformer architectures such as BERT, GPT, and Vision Transformers.
• Expertise in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and MLOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, model registry, and feature stores.
• Strong data engineering skills in building scalable pipelines for batch and streaming data using tools like Spark and Hadoop, along with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP for data science workflows and model deployment.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields is preferred.
• Proficiency in data visualization and storytelling to communicate complex insights effectively to diverse audiences.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, fostering growth within technical teams and guiding research or applied projects.
• Aptitude for quickly learning new tools and technologies, with a flexible approach to evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex AI initiatives and projects to derive insights and automate processes that address critical business challenges.
• Translate client and stakeholder needs into innovative AI and Generative AI-driven technical solutions in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
• Identify and evaluate rich data sources, oversee data integration, cleaning, and transformation to ensure data quality and readiness for AI applications.
• Deliver high-quality AI/Gen AI solutions and tools within established timelines and budgets, conducting post-implementation reviews to ensure effectiveness.
• Guide and mentor team members in developing sophisticated AI models, including intelligent agents, recommendation engines, and prototypes utilizing advanced machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI techniques.
• Serve as a technical coach for junior colleagues, fostering technical growth through ongoing training, peer reviews, and mentorship programs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and efficient AI systems that align with business objectives.
• Stay abreast of emerging AI technologies and industry best practices, integrating innovative solutions into ongoing projects.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, supporting strategic decision-making.
