About the Role:
We are urgently seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Developer to join a dynamic team working on mission-critical systems in the financial services domain . This hybrid role based in Charlotte, NC requires deep expertise in Mainframe technologies and a strong understanding of modern platforms such as Java , Spring Boot , and Microservices. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader capable of driving design and implementation decisions for complex system enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and enhancement of mainframe applications using COBOL , CICS , DB2 , JCL , and IMS/IDMS.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architecture and implementation strategies.
- Support and optimize high-volume transaction systems, particularly in financial services.
- Integrate mainframe systems with modern platforms including Java , Spring Boot , REST APIs , and Microservices.
- Work with MongoDB or other NoSQL datastores for hybrid data solutions.
- Participate in modernization efforts using MuleSoft , Azure Cloud , and Kubernetes.
- Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of applications across distributed environments.
- Document technical specifications, workflows, and change logs.
- Work in agile product teams alongside tech leads, product owners, scrum masters, and QA engineers.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 13 years of hands-on experience in Mainframe development.
- Experience with Java and related technologies.
- Expert-level knowledge in COBOL , CICS , DB2 , JCL , and Mainframe MQ.
- Experience with IMS/IDMS , EASYTRIEVE , and SORT utilities.
- Strong understanding of mainframe architecture , design patterns , and integration strategies.
- Experience with relational databases (DB2) and other RDBMS products.
- Familiarity with file transmission protocols such as Connect:Direct (NDM) , SFTP , and IBM Sterling File Gateway.
- Working knowledge of Microservice Architecture , NoSQL databases , and cloud-native development.
- Background in financial services or high-transaction volume systems.
- Experience with ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management.
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to Kubernetes , MuleSoft , and Azure Cloud.
- Experience with modern DevOps practices and mainframe modernization.
- Familiarity with EJB , event-driven architectures , and containerization.
