Data Governance Specialist

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for highly skilled Data Governance Specialists to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team.
This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders, across BDS business programs and functions, and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.
This is a remote position and requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data governance, data quality management, and data policy development and a track record of developing and implementing comprehensive data governance strategies across complex organizations. This role is critical in ensuring data assets are managed effectively and with integrity, quality, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of enterprise-wide governance data policies, standards, and procedures.
Implement and manage data lineage, data lifecycle, ETL processes, and metadata management practices to enhance data traceability and transparency.
Ensure compliance with data security, protection, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), industry standards (e.g., FedRamp, NIST or ISO 270001), and/or zero-trust architecture.
Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify data issues and opportunities for improvement.
Design and oversee data quality metrics and KPIs to continuously monitor and improve data quality.
Evaluate, implement, and manage data governance tools and technologies to support governance activities.
Stay up to date with emerging data governance trends and technologies.
Conduct regular data audits and risk assessments.
Develop and deliver data governance training programs to educate staff on data governance best practices.
Identify and mitigate data governance risks, ensuring the protection of sensitive data.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
5 or more years of experience in data governance, data quality management, or a related field.
Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices.
Understanding of data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Actual experience implementing a complex data governance program.
Certification in data governance or data management (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional).
Experience establishing and leveraging data governance technology, such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Atlan, Manta, etc.
