Job Title: Senior Mainframe Developer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Developer with over 10 years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will be proficient in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, and related mainframe technologies. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, leadership ability, and expertise in delivering scalable and secure enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and enhancement of mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM.

  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.

  • Perform system analysis, coding, testing, debugging, and performance tuning.

  • Develop and maintain batch jobs, stored procedures, and utilities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business analysts, QA, architects) to deliver quality solutions.

  • Provide production support, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure system stability.

  • Participate in code reviews, ensure adherence to coding standards, and mentor junior developers.

  • Support modernization initiatives such as mainframe to cloud migration, API integration, and DevOps adoption.

  • Maintain proper technical documentation and contribute to process improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10 years of proven experience in Mainframe application development.

  • Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS.

  • Hands-on experience with Mainframe Utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, etc.).

  • Good understanding of performance tuning, debugging tools, and dump analysis.

  • Experience in SDLC methodologies (Agile/Waterfall).

  • Strong knowledge of production support processes and change management tools (Endevor, Changeman, etc.).

  • Ability to lead, mentor, and guide junior team members.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to mainframe modernization projects (e.g., APIs, web services, cloud integration).

  • Experience with tools like Control-M, Xpeditor, File-Aid, Abend-Aid.

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (Jenkins, Git, JIRA, ServiceNow).

  • Knowledge of data migration strategies from mainframe to distributed systems.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
