Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.
Position Summary The Business Services Coordinator provides high-level administrative and operational support to leadership of the Sheps Graduate Medical Education (GME) Technical Assistance Centers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Serving as the principal liaison and ‘right hand’ to center leadership, this position ensures the efficient functioning of the centers, enabling the administrators to focus on strategic and programmatic priorities.
The Business Services Coordinator manages multiple complex calendars and project inboxes, anticipates needs, and coordinates priorities across multiple internal and external stakeholders. This role requires exceptional judgment, interpersonal skills, and the ability to represent leadership in sensitive and high-profile matters. Responsibilities include coordinating meetings and events; preparing high-quality correspondence, reports, and presentations; managing communications with stakeholders; supporting information and document management; supporting budget monitoring and fiscal administration; and overseeing logistical and operational processes across research, training, and technical assistance projects.
The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of the centers’ mission, strategic priorities, and operational environment, enabling them to proactively solve problems, anticipate challenges, and ensure leadership is fully informed and prepared for all engagements.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex calendars, coordinate high-level meetings, and plan events.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate priorities, build consensus, and represent administrators professionally with a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting, editing, and preparing documents in the administrator’s style and voice.
- Proven ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and resolve issues proactively.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Google Workspace, and the ability to learn UNC administrative systems.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
- Experience providing high-level support in higher education, healthcare, or complex organizational settings.
- Familiarity with UNC systems (e.g., ConnectCarolina, Concur, RASR, Qualtrics).
- Knowledge of public health, graduate medical education, or research administration environments.
- Experience tracking expenditures and preparing financial reports.
- Ability to research, synthesize, and prepare concise briefing materials.
