About The Role

The Enterprise Data Engineer at AARP plays a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that support the organization’s data analytics and decision-making processes. This position involves partnering with cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions. The Data Engineer will establish a technical roadmap for data platforms, ensuring seamless integration, security, and performance. They will be responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing data workflows, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines and infrastructure
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, including frameworks such as Databricks, PySpark, or similar
  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Spark, Hadoop, Delta Lake, or other distributed data processing frameworks
  • Strong understanding of data integration methods including ETL/ELT, APIs, streaming, and batch processing
  • Knowledge of data modeling, performance tuning, and scalability for analytics and reporting
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms such as Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Reliable attendance and professionalism in an in-office or hybrid environment

Responsibilities

  • Establish a technical roadmap for data platforms, considering value-based outcomes, supportability, and performance
  • Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and integrations to support analytics and business intelligence initiatives
  • Ensure robust data security, integration, and architecture design throughout all project phases
  • Provide rapid development and delivery of technical solutions aligned with organizational goals
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to data systems, pipelines, and services
  • Drive continuous process improvements based on user feedback and enterprise objectives
  • Participate in communities of interest and knowledge sharing with engineering teams across capabilities
  • Maintain deep technical expertise in domain-specific systems, solutions, and applications
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable technical solutions
