Design Engineer I

The Design Engineer I designs andor modifies or assists with the design andor modification of lift devices and equipment within the product lines of the Company from a set of verbal and written specifications Please note that we give first priority to applicants from the SIGI internship program who apply for this role Should a intern applicant not accept the position we will accept other external applications The position is based at Southworth International Group Inc SIGI headquarters in Falmouth ME Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the design of a new product andor modifications of an existing product from a set of verbal or written practices and procedures for design engineeringDesign best practices with regards to design calculationsEnsure design compliance to applicable specifications codes and established product safety requirementsDefine product testing to verify all design and customer criteria are metSupport Manufacturing with issues on the floor during assembly and timely completion of ECRsSupport Purchasing with issues regarding part obsolescence and annual cost reduction initiativesAssist Sales by providing technical expertise as requiredProvide Quality support as requiredParticipate regularly in process improvement projectsPerform other duties and complete other projects as may be assigned or requestedQualifications Skills and Experience BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology3D CADDmodeling Solidworks preferredExperience drafting parts and assemblies using industry standard techniques and GD&TBasic understanding and ability to perform calculations of Statics Dynamics Strength of Materials and Machine design skillsExperience with hydraulic or pneumatic power systemsExperience with fabricated steel weldmentsAble to work effectively and accurately against deadlines and time constraintsOccasional travel to customer sitesTravel up to 10 of timePreferred Windows and CAD management system EPDM proficiencyAbility to describe technical concepts to non technical peopleCreative problem solving skillsGood time management skillsExperience using FEA to evaluate design integrityFamiliarity with electrical controls and power a plusContinuous process improvement Lean Six SigmaWere an Equal Opportunity Employer Youll receive consideration for employment without regard to race sex color religion sexual orientation gender identity national origin protected veteran status or disability Were only hiring those authorized to work in the United States We do not currently sponsor immigration visas SIGI does not accept unsolicited resumes from search firms or employment agencies Any unsolicited resume will become the property of SIGI
