About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Frontend Software Engineer to join our Square Enterprise team. In this strategic role, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical architecture and multi-year strategy for our enterprise solutions. Your expertise will help define reliable, scalable, and unified experiences tailored for our largest and most complex customers. You will lead system design efforts across broad technical domains, ensuring the development of durable, high-performance, and secure web systems.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will address critical technical challenges such as cross-product integration, high-performance user interfaces, and seamless end-to-end platform experiences. Your leadership will influence engineering practices across teams, drive modernization initiatives, and contribute to long-term architectural improvements. Qualifications

• 12+ years of industry experience in web engineering and software development.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• Proven track record of delivering large, complex features from conception to deployment.
• Experience leading architecture and system design for multi-quarter, cross-functional projects.
• At least 5 years of experience building with React at scale.
• Strong understanding of scalable, low-latency, global systems.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and ownership skills.
• Customer-focused mindset with a passion for influencing product direction.
• Experience with modern cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP, and related infrastructure tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of scalable, secure, and durable web systems across multiple technical domains.
• Identify and resolve critical technical challenges related to cross-product integration, high-performance UI, and seamless platform experiences.
• Develop and implement long-term architectural strategies to enhance developer experience, improve velocity, and minimize operational risks.
• Contribute to technical decision-making by producing high-quality design documents, RFCs, and collaborating with teams across the organization.
• Drive technical execution for key product and platform initiatives, ensuring alignment across infrastructure, frontend, and backend layers.
• Lead modernization and migration efforts, evolving architecture incrementally without disrupting existing services.
• Mentor engineering teams and promote best practices in frontend development, system design, and scalable architecture.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve technical capabilities.
