Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that’s built for you.This position is for a mid-career Software Engineer for operational support and software engineering for the Deep Space Exploration (DSE) Ground Data System (GDS) team. The successful candidate must have relevant experience developing and supporting Ground Data Systems (GDS) and ground software and will support deep space and commercial programs in various stages of development, integration and test, and mission operations.The primary responsibilities will include:

  • Systems engineering of the end-to-end ground data system for development, testbeds, ATLO and mission operations environments
  • Support software requirements development and formal verification development and tests
  • Operational support to spacecraft teams to deployed environments, including internally developed and 3rd party ground software. Includes ensuring real-time dataflows, data management process, querying processes, command building tools, and analysis tools
  • Support troubleshooting of deployed ground system hardware, operating systems, and networks, coordinating with System Admins to resolve issues
  • Understand spacecraft flight software and operations and how they integrate with the ground software system
  • Coordinating with GDS teammates and Systems/subsystem engineers to define and refine interface requirements through design, test, and operations
  • Deploy and integrate software to operational environments, and provide operational support to systems and subsystems engineers within DSE
  • Perform tasks in accordance with DSE and Lockheed Martin software development best practices and defined SW development processesBenefits of Employment:

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern DevSecOps tools and practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, Gitlab CI/CD
  • Experience with modern software development lifecycle and processes
  • Experience with modern cloud-native software development methodologies and architectures, including security principles, software containerization, and micro-services
  • Experience with various programming languages, including C, C , Python, C#, and Java
  • Experience in Linux
  • Experience working Ground Data Systems in support of spacecraft development or operations
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and teamwork with internal and external customers

Desired skills

  • Experience supporting teams with requirements interpretation, interface definition and testing
  • Experience using Ansible
  • · Experience with managing/developing cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, OpenShift)
  • · Experience with developing GDS mission architectures and solutions
  • Experience in developing SW for support of spacecraft operations, including telemetry and data processing, basic spacecraft attitude dynamics
  • Experience working with Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and/or Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC)
