Description Summary ObjectiveThe purpose of this position is to assist in planning, promoting, disseminating information, and developing resources with community agencies and groups to assist the Shelter Plus Program.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Represents the department to the public to coordinate, explain and discuss programs and services.Prepares program reports and completes special projects.Coordinates programs and activities and maintains positive public relations with social service and community agencies.Plans and coordinates meeting agendas and speeches, recreational, educational and special event activities.Schedules and coordinates public relations activities and public service announcements.Gathers information concerning social service programs, projects, services and client statistics, and distributes literature and information to the media, community organizations and the public.Confers with legal, medical, mental health and social service agencies to assist individuals in resolving problems and to refer individuals for professional advice and counseling.Prepares investigations, case files and findings, and testifies in court.Researches publications to obtain current information or innovative methods and to meet the needs of clients.Performs related work as assigned.SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAM SPECIALIST / VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:Attends mandatory yearly volunteer training sessions.Schedules daily delivery assignments.Coordinates volunteer appreciation activities.Oversees public speaking outreach assignments.Minimum Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Social Work or related discipline.Two (2) years of social work, social service, case management or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:None.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.None.AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMPLIANCELouisville Metro Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
