Lead Transport Driver
Lead Heavy Haul Transport Driver LOCATIONS Various Construction sites throughout Arizona. *Some out of state travel required* Summary The Lead Heavy Haul Transport Driver is responsible for safely transporting oversize and overweight equipment, coordinating complex moves, and providing leadership and direction to the transport team. This role ensures all hauls meet company standards, DOT regulations, and project-specific requirements. The Lead Driver supports the Equipment Dispatch Manager with planning, communication, and training while maintaining a high level of professionalism and accountability within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy haul trucks when needed for extra coverage.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document findings accurately.
- Coordinate with dispatch, project teams, and escorts to ensure efficient route planning and on-time delivery.
- Provide on-site leadership during loading and unloading, including directing operators and rigging personnel as needed.
- Ensure all permits, routing documents, and load securement requirements are in place prior to transport.
- Train and mentor new and existing drivers on safety procedures, company expectations, and best practices for heavy haul operations.
- Assist in scheduling moves and resolving issues related to equipment, routing, or load restrictions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for complex or high-risk transports.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies.
- Promote a professional work environment and reinforce the company’s zero tolerance policy for harassment or unprofessional behavior.
- Communicate clearly with leadership regarding operational needs, driver concerns, and safety observations.
- Support continuous improvement efforts for transport processes, safety, and equipment utilization.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of heavy haul or specialized transport experience.
- Valid Class A CDL with all required endorsements for oversize/overweight hauling.
- Knowledge of Arizona and New Mexico permitting laws and bridge weight restrictions.
- Strong knowledge of load securement, rigging, and heavy equipment.
- Proven leadership experience or ability to mentor and guide others.
- Clean driving record with a strong focus on safety.
- Ability to read and understand permits, routing instructions, and technical documents.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work variable hours, including nights and weekends, based on project needs.
- Physically capable of securing loads, climbing onto trailers, and performing inspections.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb, crouch, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment or driving long distances.
