Overview:

Are you looking for an opportunity to work with cutting-edge thin film processing equipment? We support advanced PVD (physical vapor deposition) systems used in the manufacturing of next-generation hard disk drives and memory devices. We are currently seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to provide on-site support for vacuum-based semiconductor equipment. This role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities directly at customer locations.

This is a customer-facing, field-based position that requires full-time on-site presence and may involve off-shift work. Initial training will be conducted in Japan over a period of 3 to 6 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair high-vacuum PVD equipment and associated robotics at customer sites

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues; escalate complex problems as needed

  • Gather and report technical data to global engineering teams for issue resolution

  • Document all service and maintenance activities accurately

  • Install and manage equipment control software; maintain revision history records

  • Support equipment installations and system start-up at customer facilities

  • Monitor and manage spare parts inventory to ensure availability for repairs and maintenance

  • Provide technical training and support to customer engineering teams

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Follow all customer site protocols, including potential COVID-19 safety requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate s degree preferred

  • 2 4 years of experience in a technical field, with preference for vacuum equipment or semiconductor industry experience

  • Experience with multi-chamber cluster tools and robotics is highly desirable

  • Strong understanding of vacuum systems, mechanical assemblies, and electrical schematics

  • Familiarity with PLCs and control software is a plus

  • Ability to work independently following structured training and hands-on instruction

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must have a valid driver s license and clean driving record

  • Must possess or be able to obtain valid travel documents for international travel

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a cleanroom environment (full PPE required)

  • Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English) are a plus, but not required

Work Conditions:

  • Frequent standing, walking, handling small components, and use of precision tools

  • Occasional kneeling, climbing, reaching, and lifting

  • Close visual work for inspections and technical operations

  • Exposure to cleanroom and potentially hazardous conditions (e.g., lasers, chemicals, enclosed spaces)

  • Fast-paced, high-pressure situations requiring quick and effective technical resolution
